One Piece Hints at Striking Parallel Between Joyboy and its Greatest Villains
After years of anticipation for the release of One Piece manga finally revealed more details regarding Joyboy as the spiritual precursor to Luffy. Chapter #1115 Eiichiro Oda, the author of the beloved tale illustrates the form of the legendary criminal during an encounter with people from the old World Government.
The details that have been revealed regarding Joyboy reveal sinister resemblances to the evil gangsters now wreaking havoc in the show The Five Elders. There is a strong indication that the first pirate of history was able to wield the same powers of the world's rulers. One of the most evident is the fact that Joyboy was also the one who been awakened by Devil Fruit, which the Five Elders appear to have also done or at least, in appearance.
All the Similarities Between Joyboy and the Five Elders
Even though they have only a few appearances within The One Piece manga The Five Elders have demonstrated that they are the best fighters from the anime. The colossal Devil Fruit powers not only permit them to transform into mythical beasts of terror they also grant amazing boosts in strength as well as agility and strength. One of the main indications of the usage of these powers is the dark, pointed clouds around their necks. Similar patterns are seen throughout the people who have the awakened Devil Fruits of the Zoan variety, such as Luffy who was a victim of the exact Devil Fruit as Joyboy did.
The similarities in Joyboy with the Five Elders extend further. They are the "first pirate" is one of a few creatures that can be credited with contesting the group of nations who would make up the World Government, as implied in Vegapunk's comments suggesting the power of his character was comparable to that currently being demonstrated through the Five Elders. There is a good chance that the Devil Fruit could have had for his actions to be similar to that members of the Five Elders because it is the only way that a creature with similar power could harm them.
Luffy's Gear 5 transformation, inspired by similar Devil Fruit that Joyboy ate and seems not able to harm those Five Elders. Joyboy could never manage to endure his time in the Void Century war by using Luffy's capabilities. One of the major similarities with The Elders in Luffy's predecessor is that they all appear to have immortality. Joyboy was an important fighter in The 100 Years War described by Vegapunk. The average human wouldn't be able to stay fit and healthy after 100 years. They Five Elders also seem to be able to prevent the aging process indefinitely, as well as providing them with an endless amount of renewal.
Joyboy Could Have Been Just as Wrong as the Elders
In explaining the events of the war that took place in the Void Century, Vegapunk made the clear that he was not going to defend the other of the sides. He didn't know who was the correct side when it came to this war, because the information provided to him from the mysterious ponceglyphs were a bit shaky. Vegapunk's decision to not paint Joyboy as the main character in the tale could have more consequences. Although he was hailed for his freedom-fighting qualities however, the pirate of the beginning was considered to be an outlaw, in that he refused to adhere to any moral code or law, besides his own.
Much like other characters in the show, Joyboy could have committed acts that are difficult to evaluate using standard criteria. For instance, in Chapter 1115, Vegapunk suggested his belief that Ancient Weapons used during the Void Century were the cause that the entire world was becoming flooded. But the scientist did not specify which faction employed these tools. Also, there is no evidence that World Government only possesses Uranus however Vegapunk was talking about weapons that were plural and Joyboy might have had, and even used any of them.
In the course of One Piece, Oda has made certain to be awestruck by his fans even though the majority of what's mentioned above are speculations but it isn't impossible to rule as a given the possibility that Joyboy might prove to not be the hero he's been portrayed as. Or perhaps the narrative may reveal a surprising relationship between him and the five Elders.
